Youth work

at wrbc hitchin

We're proud of the wide range of groups on offer to children and young people at Walsworth Road. As part of our commitment to our youth, we appointed a dedicated Youth Worker in conjunction with Phase Hitchin back in 2016.

We run groups for children and young people on Sundays, host meetings throughout the week and also sponsor both Scout and Guide groups that meet in our Church Hall. We have connections with several of the primary and secondary schools across Hitchin, as well as through Phase. Find out more about the groups and activities on offer as well as how to contact them below.

Jam Club

Jam Club runs every Sunday morning and is for children aged 4 - 15! Starting in the main church at 10.30 am, the children and young people move into their group sessions after a short time of joint worship.

If you'd like more information, speak to a Jam Club leader identifiable by their red jackets or send us a message using the button below!

Youth Mix

Youth Mix is open to all young people in Years 6 - 11, meeting from 6.30pm on Sundays during term time. Subs are £1 a week and weekly activities range from film and pizza nights, games evenings as well as outings for bowling and trampolining. Pick up a flyer or drop us a line for more details

Mini Jammers Crèche

Our Mini Jammers Crèche is available on Sunday mornings for under 5s and their parents in the Richard Johnson room so you can still hear the service in the church. This is the stage below Jam Club and all children are invited to join Jam Club once they turn 4.

Speak to the steward on duty if you require any help

Wrigglers and Tiddlers Toddler Group

A small, friendly group of Mums, Dads, Grandparents & Carers who meet together for a chat and a drink whilst our children play - all are welcome! We meet on Thursday mornings during term time from 9.30 - 11.30am. Each week we have a craft activity or messy play, a story time and a singing time. A cost of £2 per family covers drinks and snacks for children and adults.

To find out more please drop us an email, find us on Facebook or just pop along one week.  We would love to meet you!

We also run seasonal events including an Easter Egg Hunt, Teddy Bears Picnic and a mini Christmas party!

Third Hitchin Scout Group

Third Hitchin Scout Group offers opportunities to young people (boys and girls) to experience a wide and varied range of Scouting activities. As a church, we sponsor the Group although members are not required to be regular attendees of the Church. The Group has Beaver (6-8 yrs), Cubs (8-10 1/2 yrs), and Scout (10 1/2 - 14 yrs) sections, however waiting lists are in place for some sections due to their popularity! Message them direct for more details

9th Hitchin Guides

Girlguiding is the leading charity for girls in the UK and 9th Hitchin Guides run Rainbows (5-7yrs), Brownies (7-10yrs), and Guide (10-14yrs) units. Also sponsored by the church, the group goes from strength to strength and is supported by a number of church members. For more information, please contact the District Commissioner

Linked to schools in Hitchin

Through our support of Phase, we work closely with a number of local schools. As well as supporting Year 6 students prepare for the transition from primary to secondary school, we are exploring an initiative called 'Open The Book' with several schools which takes the message of the Bible directly into the classroom.

Every few years, we host an art exhibition in the school with pieces from the local primary schools all based around a central theme. We held Hitchin ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ in July as part of our WRBC150 Celebrations.- read about it here

In the autumn term, we approach the schools as part of our annual Shoebox Project who collectively have donated over 12,000 shoeboxes in the 16 years we've run the project in Hitchin!

Holiday Club

Each year we organise a free four day Holiday Club for children aged from Reception up to Year 6. Previous years themes have included SuperDan, Monsters Stink! , The Great Escape and Go MAD!

Held in the last week of the summer holidays and concluding with a Fish 'n' Chips meal on the Friday evening, Holiday Club 2020 is guaranteed to be full of fun, games, activities and Bible stories - registration details coming soon!
