Shoebox Project 2019

As the new school year commenced, preparations for this year's Shoebox Project began in earnest. Now in its 16th year, we've already collected leaflets, posters and cartons from Link to Hope HQ and held assemblies in five participating Hitchin schools so far. We've also been sorting your donations of specific items Link to Hope look to include in every shoebox - thank you for the continued support!

Over 15 years of running a Shoebox Project in Hitchin, the joint effort of schools, churches, community groups and individuals has seen over 11,000 shoeboxes donated. Part of this includes turning the church into a giant sorting centre for all the collected shoeboxes to ensure each box is packed with fantastic items appropriate to the age of box.

more about the PROJECT

When we first began the project, shoeboxes were prepared for Smile International but after a decade as one of their largest contributors and going out with them to deliver shoeboxes in Kosovo, the charity wound up operations in Eastern Europe to focus on its other areas. However, we realised how big a difference the shoeboxes made to the lives of the people receiving them as well the huge part they play in church life each year and so we found another charity that worked in a similar region, called Link to Hope. Despite OUR initial scale-back of operations as we sought a new charity, the people of Hitchin have continued to show their generosity and support for the Shoebox Appeal - 2019 school assemblies have already begun!
