Walsworth Road Baptist Church is a self-governing Church whose basic model of governance is defined by the Trust Deed which was created when the Church was established in the 1860's.

The Church is run on a day to day basis by a group elected from it's members known as the Diaconate. Legally the Diaconate are the managing Trustees of the Church, and the Baptist Union Corporation Ltd is also a Trustee.

The Church has implemented the principles set out in it's Trust Deed in line with general Baptist practice over the years. With various changes in the law governing charities, and to ensure consistancy, it was clear in the early 1990's that the Church should have a more formal definition of some key areas, and in 1995 the Church adopted a formal binding declaration of it's 'Practices and Procedures'.

In 2007 the Church adopted a formal constitution.
